I did my summer internship at Antriksh Engineering Corporation pvt. Ltd. The project involved construction of residential apartment.
on the first day of internship my industry guide provided information about the construction project, basic requirements in a residential building and about the Vastu & architectural prospects of the building and also about the problems which might come during the construction work and also shared various methods to overcome those difficult stages.
For constructing any kind of building whether industrial or residential , the preliminary stage is plotting of boundaries of the plot area & the marking the location of the columns as provided in the drawing approved for construction of building. Plotting & marking has to be done with utmost precision. If its not done properly , then at later stage it may become a costly affair for owner /builder and also for the members asociated with the project work.
As the plottings & markings done , the next stage is excavation. The soil mass is dig out upto a prescribed level generally 15 feet (4.5 metres) from the road level. After excavation , the whole area to be consructed is levelled with the help of levelling instrument like dumpi level/ theodolite.
as soon as the excavation is done a water tank is built up nearby as to ensure continous supply of water since the construction of any building requires huge ample amount of water.Retaining wall (either R.C.C or brickwall) is made to prevent any displacement of earthmass into the constrution area.
now the footing for columns required to be excavated (upto 16.5 m from road level) according to the footing details provided in the drawing. After excavation ,ground is levelled n then P.C.C layer ( 1:2) is applied on the ground level , after that steel reinforcement comes into picture and then columns are laid on the footing and after that mass concreting (1: 1.5: 3) for M25 gradeis done(upto 1.5m from ground level).
after concreting of footing next step is to filling of concrete into reinforced columns and also r.c.c wall. For this, first shuttering work is done and the shuttering work has to be provided with strong support at both sides so that the shuttering doesn’t get displaced when vibrator is inserted from above for the pupose of compaction of concrete so that no voids in between remains when the shuttering will be removed.concreting of footings, columns, and r.c. walls togethermay take about 20-25 days or even more depending upon the area , no. of columns to be filled and also on the availabilty of materials.
Next stage is laying out of slab. For this first plywood are used wherever beams has to be provided & then steel plates/plywood is laid on the whole area except the openings for shafts, lifts & stairs.
after that reinforcement of beams & slab is done in a monolithic manner . once the reinforcemen work is over , electrical & plumbing connection are carried over. After finishing all types of connections , engineer has to recheck whether all work done is carried out in a proper manner or not. After doing all the tasks , casting of slab is done.
once the casting of slab is done , then a markings for columns has to be done again with precison, so that columns doesn’t get displaced . after that all the process as explained above gets repeated for every floor.
In the summer internship I learned a lot of new things & also witnessed many of the problems which can occur during construction and also various methods n techniques to rectify those problems.
