My 4 years at Amity, or let’s say three and a half as of
now, well to be very frank writing 3 or 4 is just a simple click but living it
was very tough and enjoyable. Well I will start with the bad parts so that I
end my post with good memories.
So we came to Amity from different states, me being a
hosteller it was something bigger for me than the local delhites as I left my
home, my friends, my whole life for a new one, as a 12th class
student would say “ It was a quest for knowledge, it was a journey to manhood”
well a final year student who is almost an ENGINEER now says “ The quest is
still a quest, and well manhood, who wanted all that baggage”.
I still remember our orientation
day we got up with alarms as our mom’s were not there to wake us up, I had
breakfast at 7:30 which was by far the earliest I had ever had my breakfast
after all the step to become an ENGINEER is to become responsible, so we came
to college AMITY UNIVERSITY INDIA’s LEADING ENGINEERING COLLEGE with almost
every ranking that has come or will come in near future, a fresher’s mind has
so much curiosity, brand new shining anti ragging flex boards raised that
curiosity to an unimaginable level but we were just going with the flow
learning to adjust, enjoying the H Block, 3 days of orientation finished and we
entered the mecca of engineering E block as we entered the first shock or
rather bomb exploded on our heads and on our parents hard earned pockets, we
just realized that department of civil engineering is just 2 faculties one HOD
who primarily heads another department and 3 rooms. Ok, so india’s high ranked
university did a pretty small mistake admitting 100 students in a department
which hardly exists. Never mind our spirits were still high as 1st
year was common for all and the lack of faculties actually didn’t affect us.
We started studying or well I can say about myself that I
started studying, “So what department hardly exists, still placement is
something which is Amity’s forte” after all which college has the potential of
100% placement and which college has the guts of saying it on national
television day and night, anyways so placement = pointer= hardwork=studying. A
rather simple and kiddish equation for a first year student. So results were
out and first moment of happiness a good result, so mind said great you got
good result and according to the equation you are on the right path. Kudos. 2nd
year started core subjects came in faculties turned into “Visiting Faculties”
classes turned into “Combined Classes” studying turned into “Self Study”,
“Labs” turned into “Classrooms” and “Classrooms” turned into “Labs” but now I
was satisfied somewhere inside, maybe because I was turning into an Amitian=
Start enjoying stop thinking, and well when you don’t think you don’t expect
you don’t expect you don’t question, pointers were on a rise marks were flowing
in but as I said “Who Cares Now”.
Well how can I forget to mention the justification of the
slogan of Amity “We Nurture Talent” well I came with a hobby of quizzing and well
not just a hobby I was good at it and had proved my metal at national level
also, so as an enthusiastic 1st year kid “I said to myself that hey
techfest is coming lets go” so we made a team, registered, etc. This was the
first time in my life that I saw “Corporate Educational Institutions”. Well I
was told by my HOD that we cannot simply go to the fest there is a procedure,
so I thought “OK, How long can the procedure possibly be” well it was not long
it was really loooong. So long that the documentation had to go through 4
departments, with 200 bonds, 2000 requests and 2 lacs recommendations, it was
so long that the day of the fest passed, it was so long that it killed the
enthusiasm of a first year kid to represent his college and pursue his hobby at
the college level. Though as an amitian I stopped my thinking but still
questions arose Why?. And my HOD the sweet helping lady said “Beta, that’s the
system her” well so yup talent is Nurtured but be systematic only then.
Well I would now jump to the special parts and moments that
actually changed me, my monotonous college life, and made it worth remembering
and cherishing. Any college life is incomplete without friends and well in my
case I can proudly say that I got great one’s, each and every person in my
class is special in some way, I was never in favour of having a wide circle but
today I can say that being friends with
everyone is really fun. We enjoyed, we travelled, we made fun of each
other and gave each other names that were offending but still we enjoyed being
called by them. Secondly Amity gave me Delhi, Delhi in itself is a whole life,
one how learns to survive in Delhi can survive in any part of the country in
any condition, Delhi has life that is really difficult to leave once you get
habitual to it, travelling became one of my best hobby in college as according
to me it is the biggest teacher, you come across different people, talk to
them, see different conditions and situations and yes I can say that it is only
because of Amity that I got to live this life and yes this gave us the actual
manhood.
I criticized the system here, I criticize the management but
I wont and never criticize the hardwork of some faculties of my department as
the things that are wrong are above their paygrade and even they are equally
helpless, but in terms of teaching some of the teachers have put efforts beyond
their limits, we still have special moments with teachers which are
unforgettable, these teachers have made us academically sound in every way they
could, they have laughed with us, they have been strict with us, they have
penalized us but they are special to us. As a department I would say that I am
proud that I am a part of Department of Civil Engineering as I have seen the
department coming up infact im not shy to say that we have contributed a lot in
bringing up this department with faculties. And it is a well known fact but
still I am never shy to say it I sincerely respect my HOD, the only lady the
only shoulder that has never ditched us whether its day or night. If she
wouldn’t have been there my college life would have been a complete disaster,
she is an inspiration, a support system, and she put’s her faith in whatever
you do.
At the end I would like to hope that after these 4
years I take back all the good memories
and cherish them and take all the bad memories as bitter lessons of life which
were as important as the good one’s.

ReplyDeleteThe CR and the Student!
I do remember the young boy of the initial semesters who used to add on worthy things in discussions....
ReplyDeleteYour section though a small one has been one of the most interactive Student Groups for me.
Thank you sir, and your classes have always been a constant refreshment for us.. Well speaking of the young boy, i think i have very well explained why those worthy suggestions stopped coming out.. Though in ur class i still have the same interest as in 1st sem. :)
